Home
We are home.
It was 104 degrees in the city and by the time we got to the VA Medical Facility in the city. Got Td into the building all right and up to the lab to get his blood work. The ac was working and he was beginning to feel better than he did in the car on the long, hot, bumper to bumper, traffic getting there.
While he was sitting in the waiting room after he got done giving blood, the AC in the building blew. We sat there for almost 40 minutes with the sun blaring in the windows with no ventilation, and when he stood up when he was called to go in and see the Dr., he went into a seizure.
He does this in hot weather but it is the first time his Dr has seen it and it was an awful way for him to see that I am not a liar and it really does happen. I told the Dr this is rediculous that he has to make the long trip up there and go through this kind of crap. He asked me why we were not scheduling telephone appts.
Why? Because no one ever told us we could do that.
They got him settled down and sedated. I went and got the car and brought it around to the side entrance with the ac in the car on full blast. They got him in the car and about half way home he began feeling better.
Got him home, and my son came out and helped him into the apt and to bed.
Sometimes I wonder what the VA is trying to do to the men and women who served their country and who get such awful care.

Sheesh -- 104 in Western Washington would do that to anybody -- but I'm glad the doc finally saw what was happening! Glad you're home and I hope TD is feeling better in the coastal cool.
Goodness... what a day! I'm glad you're all home now and, I hope, comfortable after such an ordeal. {{{HUGS}}} to you both.
It disgusts me how terribly our veterans---and those who are still serving---are treated.
I has been a hard day for your both but what is good is that the doctor saw the TD 's seizure .
What would we do without AC in the car ?
Love
Michel
HUGS***********
Sorry about y'all getting so hot and about TD's seisure. I imagine you were so glad to get home!
RYC : if you slept the the King ' s bed in Blois castle you will feel the history enter your feet and invade yourself
You would become a woman of the Renaissance time !
Michel
i hear you on that. Husband rather pay insuranc to see a civilian doctor than go to the VA. Hope you can schedule better visits.
Oh, Ruth! I'm so sorry that TD had a seizure, but like you said, so glad the doctor could see it for himself. TD has been through so much! You guys remain in my prayers!
ARG! Hate it, but really glad that he had a seizure for the doctor. Sometimes it takes something like that for the doctor to actually "see" what is going on!! Glad you are home!!
I wouldn't wish government-run medical care on anyone.
Good Grief, Ruth!!! What were they thinking. Oh wait... apparently they weren't. I'm sorry to hear y'all had to go through that but at least the doctor saw it first hand and now has a better understanding of what you've been telling him. So glad you arrived back home safe and sound and that TD is resting. Praying that he will be back to himself tomorrow. Warm hugs to all of you...
Glad you made it home in one piece.
That is awful! God bless you with the strength to take care of TD. 104 degrees? Wow, that's awful too!
I hope they will now allow you to telephone in, and not go through this type of hassle again. You're a very strong lady. TD is one lucky fella.
scary. i'm glad everything is ok. summer is almost over. thank goodness for you folks who suffer in the heat. and so glad you finally know that the phone is an option.
104 degrees!!! Hope you and TD are fine.
The VA seems to have become a sick joke. At least in my experiences. I have a line of duty back injury that flares up from time to time. It gets so bad I have to take off work because of it, and it takes a minimum of two weeks to get into the clinic. Because you just HAVE to see the same "dr" (I use quotes because you don't see a doctor at the clinic, just a nurse practitioner). So, I always end up having to have the wife take off from work as well and drive me all the way to the VA hospital in Philly. Of course, all they ever do is toss painkillers at me. I finally threw a fit about it all, basically yelling at anyone who would listen, and they finally gave me an MRI, to find out the condition worsened and I developed lumbar spinal stenosis. (Of course I had to wait two months for the MRI). Now, I just have to wait another month for the steroid injections, and who knows how long to meet with the physical therapist.
Sorry for my long rant lol Glad to hear he is finally getting the care he needs, however.
I have heard that about the VA, and I am so sorry that TD has to go through it. Hugs and love to both of you
Good grief ~ that is awful! Glad you two made it home in one piece! Continuing to pray for both of you!
Why couldn't they tell you that you could get telephone appt.! That would have prevented TD having to go through all this.... You are right. It is poor service.
Vets should most definitely be treated better. I'm glad the dr got to see the seizure, but sad it happened.
Yikes! The doctor should have a slap upside his head for lack of compassion. I'm so glad TD is feeling better. You are so right to be angry. I foresee phone appointments in TD's future!
It's been a bad summer all around, hasn't is? :( Seizures are awful, both for the person going through them and their loved one watching them, feeling helpless :( My boyfriend had a few due to a bad reaction to medication. . . I hope he feels better!! And you, as well!
♥L
i'm so sorry you have to go through this :( he should be receiving the best medical attention they can give him.
My ex-grand daughter in law has had some bad experiences with the VA care here too. She's young, but has a tumor on her pituitary gland. She had an operation at the VA hosp, in Indy (3 hours from here). They didn't get it all, and now it has grown back. It's always a hassle when she has to see a Dr.
It's just not right! Glad you are safely home, and cooler.
