Old and Rusty Abandoned Lumber Mill Green Chain
These are all part of an old green chain that was part of a lumber mill at Moon Island outside of Hoquiam, WA.
A green chain is used to move the lumber down from the saws so the pickers, (men) can pull it off and load in lumber pallets. From the pallets the lumber is stacked and shipped either by train or ship.

A beautiful, old, abandoned, characteristic place.
@RestlessButterfly -
Are there any active lumber mills around any more? These are wonderful photos!
I love these captures!
I love seeing old machinery. I visited a couple of abandoned mines in the mountains above Aspen, 30 years ago. Fascinating.
It is very rusty.
I love history like that!
rustic
Love the history lesson. Thanks so much!
I love photos of anything abandoned, whether it be an old barn or a mattress at the side of the highway. Keep taking photos!
Lovely photos & background - thanks for sharing.
Something went wrong and I don't know what it was.
Loved your photos!!!
Look at all that iron. Such beauty in these old things lying around. great pictures as usual.
beautiful photos and so much history. i was born in Tacoma. my family moved to Minnesota when i was 4 and i've only been back once when i was 10 so i don't remember much but one day at work i got a call from someone calling from Seattle. i told him i was born in Tacoma. he answered, "Oh yes Tacoma, the armpit of Puget Sound." he explained Tacoma's often referred to in such a way because the lumber industry creates quite the odor. that call came in the 1980s and from what i understand it's been cleaned up odor-wise.
Lots of pulp and paper mills shut down in the last few decades because it just wasn't profitable. I guess some are reopening to make fine paper.
I think a lot of logging still goes on, they just use fewer people to do it.
Nice photos!
Really loved these pics. I dig abandoned stuff.
Cool!
now that is very interesting, Ruth. I've never heard of this.

Impressing old machinery . Your photos transform them in art work .
